Lullabys, Dreams and New Years

Luke 8:24

“And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm.”

As I am writing this my heart is filled with heavy thoughts as there is a lot going on in life for me right now.  I am sure that if I could sit with you, you would tell me of the many things going on around you as well.  There is none of us that at some point hasn’t been faced with the things that make our hearts struggle.  Life has it storms, some are mild shifts in the sands, while others, seemingly change the direction that we saw life to be.

My granddaughters are here for the night and part of the nightly routine is the song ” You are my Sunshine”. The soft sound of the lullaby playing in the back ground as I sit here and listen to the gentle change in the girls breathing reminds me of how God uses the “lullabys” of His promises in our lives.   The girls were sharing with me tonight how Ashley has verses they read before they go to sleep to help them not worry and to fall asleep.  Joshua 1:9 was recited to me from Audrey, and Bethany reminded me of casing our cares on Jesus.  Bethany said that praying to God and reading His word helps her worries to go away so she can fall asleep.   Yes, the word of a loving Heavenly Father soothes the soul of the one in the storm.

When we are faced with the storms of life and like the disciples in the boat cry ” Master, Master, we are perishing” He rebukes the winds of sorrow, and the raging waves of worry and grief.  He reminds us that we need to have faith in Him to carry our burdens. 1 Peter 5:6-7 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

If 2016 has been a rough year for you with struggles and worries, know that you are stepping into a New Year in a few days and that you can walk through the doors of time and carry with you the confidence that all your cares, worries and storms of 2016 can be cast on Jesus.   You can begin 2017 knowing that you have the Creator in your boat ready to carry and calm through the highs and lows of the year to come.

May He pour His love on you, His strength over you, and His power to guide you.   Happy New Year from Darwin and I and our family.

Love, Hugs’ n Prayers

Jackie
