I can remember when I first heard about storing information on my computer in a “Cloud” I was completely baffled by what that was. (If truth be told I still struggle with the Internet really, physically is). According to PC Mag “In the simplest terms, cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of your computer’s hard drive. The cloud is just a metaphor for the Internet. ” Now, there are many “Cloud” services, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. etc. You can store your most vital information not only on your computer, but also in a chosen cloud service.
Where do we store our most vital spiritual information? Do we have a faith journey cloud? Have I confused you? In these verses in Luke it says “for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” In comparison to the internet cloud, lets compare that to our heart. Our head takes in all sort of levels of knowledge (our computer), both good and bad. I don’t know about you, but anything on my computer that I think would be harmful to download in a back up I just don’t put in the cloud storage we use, period. I work to get it out of my computer. I don’t keep it for another day or for other uses, it is simply discarded. The treasure of our heart that vs 45 speaks about says that “out of good treasure of his heart produced good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil”. Our heart is our spiritual cloud (so to speak). What we store in there is our back up for the knowledge that we have learned with our heads. The verses we have memorized, or even the ones we can’t remember where to find them, our heart remembers the meaning and finds council or comfort in that memory we have stored. What do we put in our faith journey cloud, our heart? According to this verse our mouth reveals what we store in there, both good and evil. I know from time to time my heart gets a cleaning. Something will come flying out of my mouth and I will stand ashamed, embarrassed and have to arm myself with apology for the wrong it produced. Then I have to take time praying and asking God for an attitude adjustment. In those moments we don’t stop and plan what we are going to say, we just blurt it out. Both good and bad come out that way and reveal what we have stored in our hearts.
Today, I am doing some “faith journey cloud” clearing by confessing to God those things I know I have stored in there that will not produce good. To check and see what I have in there, and see if I have His word hidden in my heart or just good thoughts, bad thoughts or at times nothing at all. To clean out the things that have been tucked in there that have bitterness or prejudice or anger and clean them out. Once those things are confessed, then the task will be to keep them out of there and be prepared to clean things out again and again just like a computer virus. Confessing them to the Father and asking for His wisdom and guidance and using His word, the bible, are the tools we can use as a “virus” protection against satan’s hacks to our hearts. Check your “cloud” today and see what you have stored in your heart for your mouth to reveal.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matt 6:19-21
