I often look at Darwin , our kids, their spouses and granddaughters and my heart is filled to the over flowing with the sense of being blessed. They are are one of the greatest gifts that Jesus has given me in my life here on this crazy old earth. I have wondered many times, what would have happened if on the day that we decided to get married that I changed my mind and walked away from that commitment and moved on in life. Look what I would have been missing!!! Without the commitment to Jesus and the commitment to Darwin to be his wife, I would have missed having my kids who brought two amazing spouses (my other kids) into my life and then I wouldn’t have my granddaughters as they are. The commitment we have to Jesus and to each other is what brought us through a rough patch in our marriage to what we have now. We didn’t understand everything going on in our lives at that time and the choices we made etc., but deep down inside we knew we loved each other and God got us through. We had to commit first to Him and then to each other. I am so glad God didn’t give up on us!!!
In the verses to read this morning, there is a lady who is so overwhelmed in her love for Jesus that she cried out saying how blessed Jesus Mom was for giving birth to Him and nursing Him. Jesus turned it around, He said that Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it. Commitment, devotion, love and dedication – that is keeping it. Following as best as we can and continuing to try, that is commitment. When we take some time to read the bible and commit ourselves to act upon the things within, and live within the promises from God, we really are blessed! He wants us to read His word and live it, learn from it and grow. Just like Darwin and I had to commit to each other, even through times we didn’t understand and mistakes made, we came to a place where we knew we were blessed because we had each other. Taking the time to read in His word, to learn and then to act on what it says and keep it, assures us that our lives will be blessed. Not always easy, but always blessed. Not always understandable but always blessed because we know that it is Him who watches over us, hears us and loves us enough to send His son to die for us and then to walk this life with us. His word is full of instruction and promise, ours is to read and live it. One lesson, one step at a time.
Take a few minutes to count your blessings today, and don’t forget to count your Bible as one of them for in that is true blessing.
