“When he was at the table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight”
Luke 24: 30,31
I can’t even begin to imagine how Cleopas and his unnamed friend must have felt when they realized that the man that they had been walking with and learning from was Jesus himself! To have spent that time with him and hearing this man interpreting all the Scriptures about Jesus and learning so much and then to discover their teacher was Jesus must have been so overwhelming. As exciting as that was, how hard it would have been that he vanished from their sight in that moment. I am sure that they had many more questions and wanted to learn more.
I can think of times in my own life where I was in the middle of something extremely difficult and then something has happened where I can see that it was Jesus who was “walking” with me and gave me the strength to walk through the situation at hand. Times in life where my heart has been longing for His touch of peace, or wisdom and then to see He was there all the time in the events that carried me through. How through the Bible that we so freely have access to in this country, has been my rock. Cleopas and his friend had Jesus right in front of them and could not see who He was in that moment. We do that. We are so focused on our life around us whether it be great happy times, or times of extreme stress or sadness that in that moment we fail to see Jesus is with us. He is “walking” with us day by day even though our eyes can’t see Him.
Take time today to watch for His presence in your life and when it appears that He has vanished and life seems so hard, remember He is there. It is our eyes that can’t see Him but our hearts know Him and His word directs us to Him. Jesus used scripture with Cleopas and his friend that day, let that same encouragement come to you through His word. ( vs 32 ” They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”)
Let is burn within your heart today to encourage and guide you into a deeper understanding of Jesus and His hand in your life today.

A scholar I am not, nor am I an author. I am one who loves and adores Jesus and loves to reflect on His word. Thank you for joining me in some of my thoughts and reflections. As a child learns through lessons from Mom and Dad ,so I am learning in my walk with Jesus. Please don’t take this, or any other devotional in place of spending time in the Bible yourself. If you know of someone who would like to join us every Thursday morning, please share this link with them and they will receive the weekly emails as well. http://eepurl.com/bUtgi9 Thank you for joining me on my faith journey.
