I think one of the things I like to do almost more than anything else is to give gifts. It makes me happy to bring a smile to someone and for the most part, gifts do just that. When we give a gift, we never look at it as something we do to get something back. It is given and must be done with an open hand with no expectations of what should happen to it once it has been placed in the receiving hands.
The Holy Spirit gives several kinds of gifts that when we receive them they are poured through us to benefit others, but ultimately to bring glory to God. Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control. All of those things He gives to us as the Fruit of the Spirit, it is through those things that we can “see” the evidence of what He has poured into us. When we share the gifts we are given, and then stand back and see good from something that wasn’t “natural to us” , it is evidence we can see that He dwells in us. Amazing that He would choose to have us be part of His plan to reach others!
Have you ever done something that you have stood back after and thought “ I know that wasn’t me doing that! That must have been from God!” The Holy Spirit gives gifts of many kinds, and through Him dwelling in us empowers us to follow through with His promptings.
I know that for some people they are just naturally kind and caring people and have never known Jesus as Saviour. Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control can be part of someone who doesn’t know Jesus. The big difference, is that in each of those things when prompted by the Holy Spirit through the life of a believer, it then turns to something that will bring Glory to God. Love in times of sharing life with the unloveable; Joy that is unexplainable; Peace that is beyond words in a tormented time; Kindness to one who in life seems undeserving; Goodness in situations that in the natural human eye should deserve “pay back”; Faithfulness that stands out as different in a world that demands so much less; Gentleness that comes at a time of being surrounded in harshness; and Self control in situations that draw attention away from that which is right and good. All those things are things that when done in the life of a believer can be used to point someone to Jesus.
When noticed or questioned, you can and turn give Glory to God by sharing that He lives in you and that those things are like His hands and His feet. He will always have a purpose for prompting you to act on His will with the gifts He has given you. Be honest, and be bold in sharing what you have seen Jesus do in and through your life. You just never know who’s life will be changed by the gifts you have been given within you.
