Finding Gifts

One of the exciting times during a birthday or Christmas is discovering what our gift will be.   I am sure we can all remember as a child the anticipation of what is under the tree or what is it that is in the wrapped gift from someone special in our life.  What we need to realize is that, within us is are gifts given to us waiting to be “unwrapped”.   These gifts are not only for us, but to be used by the Holy Spirit to bring praise to the Father.

Please read:  1 Corinthians 12: 1-31

It seems as if the more I research on the Holy Spirit the more apparent it is to me how amazing it is that He pours so much into us!   Not only is He the person who seals our assurance of salvation through His dwelling within us, but He pours gifts into us and uses us to bring Glory to the Father.   I have always wondered what my spiritual gift/s is/are.   Do you know yours?  Have you spent any time looking into spiritual gifts?   It would be interesting for me to hear back what you believe your gift/s are.

Years ago, my Mom did a study on Spiritual Gifts to learn what her gifts are.   Almost anyone that knows her could tell you that her spiritual gifts include things that lead to teaching.   Her love for Jesus and the her time in His word and the study of His word pours out of her in so many beautiful ways.  Whether it was a topic of discussion such as faith, or through a study of a variety of animals, Mom has always had the ability to draw a straight line back to the Saviour she loves and adores.  Teaching is for sure one of her gifts!   She is 95 now and in her way continues to teach in the way she prays for many, reaches out to people around her with a smile and gentle touch and the way she is teaching us as her kids how to age graciously.

In the scripture today

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;  and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord;  and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good”

Through the Holy Spirit there is a variety of gifts, variety of service and a variety of activities, and scripture promises that all of them are empowered by the one true God.   Wow, take a few minutes to think of that!  No matter what your spiritual gifts are, you are empowered by the God you love and want to serve.   You are not doing any of those things on your own.  You are given spiritual gifts, gifts that stir you to action and test your human abilities.

Mom is a pretty timid lady, but stand her up in front of a group of ladies and ask her to bring a devotional and you will see Jesus working through her for His purpose.  She used to be a speaker for Christian Women’s Club.   She would open her heart and mouth and share parts of her life and her faith in Christ.  There were many ladies who in turn gave their life to Christ after hearing her story.   It was never a badge she wore, but she was humbled He chose to use her.

Other scripture reference to Spiritual Gifts are:

“  Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. (1 Pet. 4:10)”

“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. (Romans 12:4-6a)

I truly don’t know what my spiritual gifts are and really want to know. Over the next couple of weeks I am going to spend some time looking into Spiritual gifts and then I will share what I find out with you.  Please don’t use what I write as the final word because this is just my reflection of what I find along the way.   Take time in search of what your spiritual gifts are through time of prayer and reading of the Bible.   You can’t go wrong looking for the gift that is there for you, it is in you!   You need only to open your heart and mind and seek for the Holy Spirit to empower you to do great things for Him.

Love, Hugs n’ Prayers
