Accidents vs Gifts

As many of you know, Darwin and I were in a motorcycle accident just over a week ago. Due to many reasons I can’t go into details at this time. One thing I can tell you is that we are both alive, hurting, in pain and bruised, but alive and progressing forward with our physical injuries. We have so much to thank Jesus for in that He has in His mercy spared our lives, and that our gear spared our bodies of much more pain than we are in now. The accident happened fast and without warning, and really there are many things in life that are like that isn’t there? One minute we are in this situation and without warning we are faced with something new. Unplanned are the accidents in life.
One thing that is planned is the will of God, and that includes our spiritual gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit.

Please read: 1 Corinthians 12 We have read this before, but please read it again, it is rich and full of knowledge and guidance in our search for our Spiritual gifts.

1 Corinthians 12: 11
“All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.”

We don’t decide what gifts we are given, they are given by Him who created us and when we turn our life over to Him it is He who empowers us to fulfill His will with the gifts He gives. I am starting to wonder as I work my way through this time in the bible if some of those gifts are given just for a situation and then they change. The gifts we are given are never an accident, they don’t just happen, and they aren’t EVER meant to cause harm. They are given intentionally to us to bring Glory to God, our Father.

1 Corinthians 12: 8 ( the first part of the verse)
” For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, …”

Utterance of Wisdom
Wow, it is amazing to think that God in His wisdom would give to someone who is all human, insight to His wisdom!! Each spiritual gift is given for His purposes! So to some, He chooses to pour wisdom into them and then they are given the gift to “utter” that to those that need to hear it. Utter – “to say something or make a sound with your voice” This isn’t knowledge that the recipient is to keep to themselves! It doesn’t just say that they are given the gift of wisdom, they they through the Spirit are given the gift to speak that wisdom. Wow!! ( I say that a lot don’t I? lol) But really, Wow! God gives insight into His word, or life or whatever it is He chooses in order to fill a person with that gift and then gives them the words to speak. So, look at it this way, when you are asked to speak at a gathering, or someone comes to you for guidance in their faith or life, or when you are confronted with a situation that you are uncomfortable that if it is in God’s timing and His will the gift to speak that wisdom will be there!! Have you ever sat through a sermon, or listened to a song that spoke to you deeply in drawing your heart to the Lord? I am sure you have, do you think that the gift of uttering wisdom was given to that pastor or song writer? Did it draw you think deeply of Jesus , or be thankful or be filled with praise? Then my guess is yes, they were in that time given the “utterance of wisdom”.

I have so much to learn on spiritual gifts, do you? Don’t just take what I write here as the final word, dig deep in your bibles and seek God for His gift in your life. If you love Him, if you have asked Him into your life then you can be sure that you have been given spiritual gifts. If they are gifts that we never “opened” then the giver cannot be given praise. Take time to “open your gifts” from Him. Discover who you are in Him. Our motorcycle accident was that, an accident, gifts are no accident. They are given by a Holy loving Father who wants to involve you and me in His purpose for reaching others for Him. Take time.. dig and open and then let the gifts He has given you lead you on a path to fulfill His purpose for you life.

Love, Hugs n Prayers
