Another week has passed, or shall I say another switch day is done. Each Tuesday I make my trek home after four nights in the hospital with Ashley. We are in month 7, and as I write this I am once again brought to the question ” how did we get here!” There are days I am sure it is a dream and I must be able to wake up, nope… its our reality for now.
Corey and I switch on Friday and Tuesdays, and head back home or stay with Ashley and work to keep things going and to support and help her. Our tasks have varied over the 7 months, from having to turn her in bed, to being by her side as she walks again, even though much process needs to be made we are thankful that she can walk. This is a blessing!
Our times with Ashley are filled with many things, from dressing changes to doctor visits (many, many attending, residents, students), and getting her meals and visiting.
We have had lots of times to talk with her. As husband and wife and as mom and daughter we have shared time together in the midst of this storm. Watching silly videos on the internet brings a laugh here and there. Laughter is a blessing after all. Some of the visits with the nurses who have become as family to us in some ways also can bring a laugh or two. We appreciate their care and attention to Ashley and getting to see first hand the care it takes to survive in that career at this time of shortages. They work very hard!!! This is also a blessing.
We wait on more doctors, tests, test results and… time. Please keep praying for her for healing of the various things that are happening within her. We keep praying that she will soon be well. God is faithful in this storm, we must just do our part and then wait.
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
