Have you found an Agate?

Recently we had our company dinner to celebrate two of the men we have had working for us for over 20 years.   It was great to get to visit and celebrate the dedication of these two guys, they have become family.   While we were visiting Justin and his wife Erin began to tell us of their adventures in search of agates.   The photos they have some of them are so beautiful and the adventures sound like a lot of fun!   If they only stood at the river side and fished or walked and never bowed their heads they would have missed out on the agates that they found.   Some of them are very large and some so small but no less beautiful.

If we spend our days only looking straight ahead and not stopping to look around, to bow our heads in prayer and not digging into the ‘river side’ of the beautiful writings in the bible, then we will miss out.  Just like the agates are formed from the trauma of an eruption from a volcano that produced the lava and filled with the earth’s ingredients, so is our lives.   We go through many times of intense stress and trials and when we are able to nestle into our faith in Jesus and cling to Him in tears, mourning, crying, anger and carry our unknowns to Him… He fills us with peace, and comfort.  I don’t understand how it all happened with the formation of agates really because I was not there, I have to have faith that it happened as they said.   So is my faith in God and Creation.  When I don’t understand why things are the way they are, or understand even why at times my life has peace while others around me have torment… then I must rest in the God I pour all my faith into.   I wasn’t there at creation but I trust it was Him who orchestrated it all.

I found a “nugget” today… this one isn’t one you can polish up and put on a fancy display.   It is in written word and just reading through it brought me to a place of peace this morning I found a gem.   Take a few minutes and read through Psalm 104… think of the creation that is around us.  Think of the amazements of nature in not only the formation of agates, but in the beauty that surrounds us.   Oh the Father I have in Heaven provides so much for our enjoyment!  Take a few minutes and look around and see the beauty that surrounds us.  Our family, friends, faithful employees and their families, our skies, the mountains and oh, don’t forget, take a minute and bow your head, you never know what beauty might be waiting to be picked up and polished.

“May the glory of the Lord endure forever;  may the Lord rejoice in his works,
who looks on the earth and it trembles,  who touches the mountains and they smoke!  I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.  May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord.”

Psalm 104:31-34 (take time to read the whole chapter it is so beautiful)
